Locals in Doi Lo District, Chiang Mai Province, celebrated His Majesty the King’s 86th birthday by releasing 100,000 fish fry into the river. The event was also held as a tribute to HM the Queen on the occasion of her 81st anniversary.
Fish released into Ping River were silver carps, mud carps, and seven-striped barbs. According to the district mayor, the fish released will help stabilize marine resources and promote people’s participation in the management of water resources.
His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej will turn 86 on December 5, 2013. Known to his subjects as King Rama IX, His Majesty has reigned since June 9, 1946, making him the world's longest-serving current head of state and the longest-reigning monarch in Thai history.
