CHIANGMAI, 1 September 2014 –The flood waters in Chiang Mai’s downtown including at Sri Ping Muang, Kad Kom, and the Chiang Mai College of Dramatic Arts have receded after pumps were used round-the-clock.

On August 30th, the Chiang Mai Municipality was submerged by flash floods. Subsequently, the Chiang Mai Provincial Disaster Mitigation and Prevention Department installed several pumps to divert water into Mae Kha Canal and into the city’s drainage system.

Meanwhile, heavy rains and thunderstorms are forecast in the North of Thailand due to the monsoonal trough currently covering the northern and northeastern regions coinciding with the influence of the Southwest monsoon.
