CDC on schedule with charter amendment process

BANGKOK, 1 July 2015 – The Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) has revised Section 64 of the draft constitution pertaining to citizen’s rights in political and communal participation.

The section guarantees equal access to natural resources and biodiversity.

The CDC revealed it was able to complete 14 sections yesterday and is currently on track with its deliberation timeframe. The CDC had made language adjustments to Section 53, which guarantees the right to peaceful assembly.

It also agreed to suspend Paragraph 2 of Section 60, which allowed for independent consumer protection agencies, Paragraph 2 of Section 62, regarding the right to be notified by the state on projects with potential environmental impacts, and Paragraph 3 of Section 63, regarding the establishment of a national development plan.
