BANGKOK, 2 March 2015 , The Constitution Drafting Committee believes that empowering the people is the foundation of helping Thailand achieve true democracy.

The CDC and its sub-committee on public participation joined the Community Organisations Development Institute on Sunday to jointly host a seminar on the importance of the citizens’ assembly, which was aimed at hearing opinions of all organisations related to this new assembly.

CDC’s Vice Chairman Suchit Bunbongkarn delivered a special lecture on the charter drafting process, in which he insisted that the essence of the process is still to have more public participation in order to make sure that the new Constitution meets the public’s need and is accepted by all.

Regarding the concept of the citizens’ assembly, Mr. Suchit said that the intention is to help the people in all areas to be strong and able to be responsible for the works of the government while continuously inspecting the state use of power.

By keeping things in balance, Mr. Suchit believes that true democracy will come to Thailand and reconciliation will be achieved by those engaged in conflicts.
