More than 1,000 Sattahip residents and public officials turned out as Bang Saray marked World Anti-Rabies Day with vaccinations and a parade.

Nipon Khemklad of the Chonburi Livestock Department, Sattahip Permanent Secretary Pikul Sopha and Bang Saray Mayor Somjit Nimsuwan led the Sept. 28 festivities at Bangsrae Khonglharam Temple.

Speakers offered information on rabies while staff provided vaccinations, dog and cat sterilizations and animal contraceptives.

Somjit noted that the city continuously works to prevent rabies and was awarded World Health Organization rabies-prevention awards in 2010 and 2011. Anti-Rabies Day is organized by WHO worldwide each Sept. 28.

He said the city cooperates with Regional Livestock Office 2, the Office of Disease Prevention & Control Region 3, Chonburi Livestock Department and the Naval Recruit Training Center.
