The poll showed that farmers in the northeastern region have the highest happiness index in Thailand. The results were based on the “Thai Farmers’ Happiness Index” questionnaires answered by 2,448 farmers at random all over the country. According to the poll, Thai farmers were happiest in 3 aspects including housing and environment, health and work.
Farmers also said they were quite happy in terms of social, education and economic aspects. The poll showed the level of happiness among farmers had risen to 89% compared to the 76% recorded in the last poll conducted in January 2013. As to the question of farmers’ expectations from the BAAC, the poll showed farmers wanted loan support to enable them to build a stable career, followed by assistance to have supplementary occupations and incomes.
The BAAC expects a 4.6% growth in the agricultural economy in the second half of this year and a 4% growth rate for the whole year due to the increase in farm produce.
