The three resorts included Ploy Samet, Muk Samet and Unseen Resorts which had been fighting the case since 2003, filing an appeal and submitting the case to the Administrative Court for temporary protection. The court recently dismissed the order, giving officials the authority to raze the three resorts trespassing the park under Section 22 of the National Park Act, 1961.
A small house belonging to the Fisheries Department was also razed as it was constructed without permit. Mr.Wichet stated that the demolition of the three resorts should not take more that 15-20 days. The costs for the razing will be later charged to the resort owners.
Yesterday’s demolition was also witnessed by Mr.Manopat Huamuangkaew, Director-general of the National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department (DNP), Mr.Wichit Chatphaisit, Rayong Governor and Mr.Sumet Saithong, Chief of the Khao-Laem-Ya Koh Samet National Park.
