Australian not laughing after allegedly passing funny money

Pattaya Tourist Police arrested an Australian trying to exchange counterfeit U.S. dollars in South Pattaya.

 

Garry Leon Skowronski, 55, was apprehended at the TT Foreign Exchange on Second Road March 16. Seized were seven counterfeit US$100 bills.

Exchange booth clerk Kanjana Butsa-ad alerted police, claiming Skowronski and his 29-year-old Thai girlfriend had tried to pass bills with matching serial numbers.

Police later searched the Australian’s North Pattaya hotel room and found two more counterfeit bills with the same serial numbers.

Skowronski claimed he’d exchanged the same dollars in Australia without problem, so he didn’t realize the bills were fake. He was charged with possession of counterfeit currency.
