BANGKOK, 20 January 2014  The Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for the suspect behind the recent explosion at the Victory Monument while a 700,000-baht bounty has been put up for his capture.

After petitioning the Ratchada Criminal Court to grant a warrant for the bomber’s arrest, Metropolitan Police Chief Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit Thoopkrachang announced that the court had today approved the request. He said the identity of the culprit was clearly captured on camera while he was hurling an explosive into the crowd of protesters at the Victory Monument on Sunday.

The arrest warrant comes with seven charges, including attempted murder, illegal possession and use of explosive devices, illegal possession of firearms and violations of the Internal Security Act. Anyone who can provide information leading to the suspect’s arrest will be rewarded 500,000 baht by the Metropolitan Police and another 200,000 baht by the Center for the Administration of Peace and Order, totaling 700,000 baht. Nonetheless, Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit encouraged the culprit to surrender himself to the police as soon as possible.

As for another explosion on Banthat Thong Road on Saturday, arrest warrants have been requested from the Southern Bangkok Criminal Court for two suspects. It is being deliberated whether the case is in connection with the Victory Monument bombing as the explosives used were found to be of the same type.
