BANGKOK, 25 May 2014 – The Deputy Spokesman of Thai Army, Col. Winthai Suvaree, has tried to reach out to various ambassadors to explain the coup d’etat seizure of power, after the U.S. concluded that it would cease military aide to Thailand for the time being.

Col. Winthai tried to suggest to foreign ambassadors that the coup in Thailand is somehow different from other coups in other countries. The spokesman claimed that operations were under the legal framework in an attempt to raise the confidence of foreign countries.

Meanwhile, he said that a photo of Mr. Phanthongtae Shinawatra, son of Thaksin Shinawatra, appearing to be detained by the authorities and posted in social media, was not actually a detention.

The army is closely monitoring the movements of military resistance and protest groups, claiming that it is in the name of maintaining peace.
