Army Chief: Budget approved for road maintenance in the south

BANGKOK, 30 October 2014 – The Prime Minister has approved an 800 million baht budget for road restoration in three southern border provinces, reports the Army Chief.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army Gen Udomdej Sitabutr, today said that the army has been appointed to take responsibility for the road reconstruction in the southern border provinces of Thailand.

This restoration project came after a survey of the people’s needs in the border provinces, conducted by the Internal Security Operations Command.

The Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha subsequently approved the budget of 800 million baht to fund the project. The army has assigned the Engineering Department to make a distribution of duties to the Development Divisions which will perform the restoration task.

The reconstruction will take 7-8 months. After the roadway restoration is done, it will facilitate people’s transportation needs and help in the maintenance of security.

All of the military engineers are delighted to be performing the task as it will bring happiness to the people in the area, said the Army Chief.
