Speaking after a seminar on health, Public Health Minister Pradit Sintavanarong said the government has a policy to provide health care for 4 groups of people, but the most important group is children under 5 years old guven they need proper care for proper development. The ministry has, therefore, come up with 3 strategies to ensure good health for those groups. These strategies include providing easier access to health services, improving service quality, and working closely with health-related agencies to care for those aliens.
He added that the main issue the ministry needs to focus on right now is that pregnant women, particularly female alien workers, who usually have limited access to health services, do not get appropriate prenatal care these days, causing the fetus to lack proper development,
As a result, the government is encouraging alien workers to purchase health insurance coverage at the yearly cost of 2,200 baht, while a physical examination will cost 600 baht for them. After the baby is born, the mother will be required to purchase health insurance to cover the baby, at the rate of 365 baht a year.
