An Algerian tourist was arrested for allegedly stealing a brand-name handbag, cash and valuables from a South Korean man.

Mouloud Sadat, 53, was charged with taking a 60,000-baht Prada purse, sunglasses valued at 10,000 baht and about 39,000 baht in cash from Seung Chul Lee, 45, police said at an April 21 news conference.

Pattaya Police Chief Pol. Col. Apichai Kroppech said Seung filed a police report around 7:30 p.m. April 17 that while he was having dinner at the Je Lek restaurant on Naklua Soi 27 Sadat took his bag, which also contained a 2,000-baht mobile-device charger and credit cards.

Security cameras captured Sadat swiping the bag while Seuang wasn’t looking. He was spotted four days later entering a restaurant on Naklua Soi 33.

The suspect claimed he had blacked out and didn’t remember taking any handbag. However, police discovered the stolen property while searching his room and suspect he could be involved in other similar crimes in the area and are investigating.
