Air Force strengthens air defense system

BANGKOK, 12 September 2013 The Royal Thai Air Force has bolstered its air defense system, adding a batch of 12 Gripens to its collection. 

After unveiling the 12 Gripens, Supreme Commander General Thanasak Patimaprakorn congratulated the Thai Air Force for its new jets, which he said would help improve the country’s air defense system make the Thai air force a leader in the ASEAN region, adding that Thailand is the only nation in Asean that has Gripens.

According to the Supreme Commander, said Gripens are compatible with Thailand’s geography, adding that a Gripen is not normally used to strike, but to be the country’s air fortress as it can fend off any kinds of air threat. Lastly, General Thanasak praised the Air Force for its vision to bring in the Gripens.

Gripen is a lightweight single-engine multirole fighter. It has a delta wing and canard configuration with relaxed stability design and fly-by-wire technology.
