BANGKOK, 9 July 2014 -The Acting Supreme Patriarch has given an address to people reminding them to observe religious precepts on the occasion of Asalha Puja. Parents should do good at this time, as a model for their children.

Asalha Puja is a Theravada Buddhist festival which typically takes place in July, on the day of the full moon of the eighth lunar month (July 11 or 12, 2014, depending on location). Asalha Puja, also known as Dharma Day, is one of Theravada Buddhism’s most important festivals, celebrating as it does the Buddha’s first sermon in which he set out for his five former associates the doctrine that had come to him following his enlightenment.

The general public is invited to observe the five precepts on the occasion of Asalha Puja.
