37 additional Thai evacuees from Libya arrived in Bangkok on Tuesday

BANGKOK, 13 August 2014 – 300 Thais who were previously in Libya have arrived back home and 666 others are in transit. There are 680 Thais remaining in Libya at present, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Foreign Ministry officials revealed that 37 additional Thai evacuees arrived in Bangkok on Tuesday. All of the returnees were those who were previously sheltered in Tunisia after having been evacuated from Libya by land. From Tunisia, the evacuees boarded commercial flights back to Bangkok. The cost of evacuation from Libya and of the air tickets were either shouldered by Thai authorities or companies in Libya that employed the Thai workers.

Another group of 45 Thai evacuees is scheduled to arrive in Bangkok on Thursday (August 14), taking the Ministry of Foreign Affairs closer to completing its evacuation of all 1,342 Thais from Libya.
