More than 50 companies had more than 3,000 jobs on offer as they joined for a job fair at Pattaya City Hall.

Organized by the Chonburi Employment Office, the May 21 fair featured 56 government and private organizations, including hotels, companies and factories.

Booths were set up for interested workers to apply for jobs, many of which had openings for the disabled and positions overseas.

The HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Vocational Centre offered short-term vocational training courses for people interested in learning now to make hats, coin bags, key chains, donuts, and waffles.

Pattaya City played middleman in bringing employers and employees together to directly discuss the possibilities, saving time for job seekers and the hassle of traveling long distances for interviews. It also made it easier and more convenient for business to meet and interview prospective employees.

Deputy Mayor Wutisak Rermkitkarn said, “Pattaya is a well-known name amongst Thais and foreigners as a tourist destination and we are very close to many industrial estates in the area. The main businesses here cater to tourists and therefore establishments are in need of staff. On the other hand, people from all over Thailand come to Pattaya and the Eastern Seaboard look for work. So this job fair today serves both parties and we are confident that the outcome is beneficial to all parties.”

He also added that if everyone could get employment, there would be less crime in the community.

Sombat Nimcharoen from Buriram spoke to the Pattaya Mail saying he’s been living in Pattaya for three years and has a bachelor’s degree.

“I would really like to get a proper job so that I can support my family. I have applied with five companies and am really hoping that I will get a job with one of them. This will help me a lot, so that I do not have to depend on my parents or relatives anymore,” he said.

“I hope I am lucky today and, if I am, I will cherish this work experience and work to develop my skills for advancement of my career in the future.”
