300 sailors train for security duty in southern Thailand

About 300 Royal Thai Navy sailors are training through mid-March to take over airport security and coastal patrols in southern Thailand.

Capt. Wasant Sathornkij opened the month-long training course Feb. 11 at the Air and Coastal Defense Command in Sattahip.

Personnel from the 1st Anti-Aircraft Regiment, 1st Coastal Defense Regiment and training divisions will for duty at Narathiwat Airport and the ACDC’s Songkla base through March 12. They will relieve existing units there in April.

ACDC commander Rear Adm. Luechai Ruddit said the training covers physical and mental preparedness. He urged sailors to gain as much knowledge as possible, have perseverance and work hard in order to gain expertise for facing any situation.
