Pol. Maj. Gen. Nuntachart Supamongkol of the Chonburi Provincial Police said the security of forces from 19 countries was paramount during the event organized to mark the 50th anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

Officers were directed to be strict and observant during the Nov. 13-22 show and man checkpoints to root out weapons and drugs.

Working with Pattaya police, the cops also rounded up beggars, homeless people and transvestites on the beach to give the foreign sailors a good image of Pattaya.
