Eighteen Thai-centric bars and clubs in Pattaya were cited for various violations in a citywide sweep of nightspots by Banglamung District officials.

The 18 unnamed bars were fined or shut down for up to five years for offenses including selling alcohol after hours, selling alcohol to minors, and operating without proper licenses.

In all, 30 bars were checked June 29 by a squad led by District Chief Chakorn Kanjawattana and local police, which split into four teams and fanned out across the city.

The raid is the latest in an ongoing crackdown on illegal nightspots that has seen officers storm bars catering both the locals and foreign tourists, including numerous Walking Street go-go bars, which all were found to be in order, but still disrupted business and annoyed low season visitors.
