1,244 Thai fishing boat workers helped from Indonesia

BANGKOK, 30 July 2015 – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has helped 60 more Thai fishing boat workers return to Thailand and issued Certificate of Identity to around 150 crew men. 

Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sek Wannamethi said the ministry had continuously helped the Thai fishing boat crew who had been stranded on Ambon and other islands in Indonesia. From 1 October 2014 – 29 July 2015, the ministry sent a total of 1,244 people back to Thailand, said the official.

Mr. Sek confirmed Thailand’s assistance for the stranded workers were based on international relations and laws of Indonesia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has worked with the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, the Royal Thai Police as well as other national security units in rehabilitating the crew men who had returned from Indonesia. They have also joined hands to hunt down those involved in human trafficking.
