UK refusing health insurance?

Amazing Thailand - I was informed by a relation in UK that when applying for personnel insurance, was asked, “Have you spent any time in Thailand?” Also, when offering to give blood was asked the same question, and was refused. So I got an email asking if I knew why Thailand was being singled out, so anyone know?  Apart from the obvious HIV, which is world wide.

Ed’s note: Our resident doctor says that it could be because of tropical diseases, such as malaria, dengue, Japanese B, encephalitis, Hepatitis B…

    But " ED ", most of these diseases are common thru out Asia so why would Thailand and no others be asked about ?
