Thai time – early

Editor;

When most people talk about “Thai time”, they complain about how their friends or business associates show up late.  But there is another Thai time that bothers me.  I have contracted a maid service (I know, boo hoo, right?) who come once a week.  Since I work late at night, the original schedule was to have them arrive at 1 p.m.  The first time was ok, and the second time they showed up quite late (Thai time).  So I decided to reschedule the next time for 2 p.m.  This would give me time to wake up, take a shower, do my morning chores, and let the morning coffee complete its duty of, well, purging the system from yesterday’s meals.  But this time they showed up an hour and 40 minutes early, at 12.20pm.  Now I am sitting here uncomfortably fighting a battle against a most effective earlier cup of coffee.

I read once that if you really want to p@#s off someone, show up way earlier than your appointed time.  It would be like if a “normal” person scheduled a meeting for 9 a.m., and the person showed up at 7.20 a.m.  It just doesn’t make sense.  Then again, what does in this part of the world?
