Re: Rodents along Beach Road (PM Mailbag Friday, 01 January 2016) – “He smells a rat.” I doubt we will have any outbreaks of “The Black Death” anytime soon. Rodent control is certainly a hidden agenda of concession closures a day a week. The city must bait heavily in their nesting areas, but the trick is to get them to eat the poison.

The other consideration is beach and sewer cleanliness every day and (sadly) removal of all mobile food carts. Our sanitary systems cannot handle “the runoff” and rats are even capable of surviving nicely on dog poop so “soi dogs” should also be eliminated and persons “walking” their dog without means of removing the dogs inevitable bowel movement should have their dog confiscated immediately pending their payment of a 5000 baht fine payable only to the Pattaya Department of Sanitation at City Hall.

None of this is going to happen! After all, we foreigners came here to live without rules, social mores and restrictions. All cities have rats (Yes, London, Liverpool, Manchester, too!) and these creatures have always been present even before humans showed up. They are part of what “cleans up” our world.

If you want fewer, learn to tolerate feral cats, owls, snakes and weasels.
