Pattaya has been designated as the pilot project to record data to analyze risks to safety. Data collected will be summarized and used to set standards to elevate marine safety.

Officials said awareness must be raised among tour-boat operators about safety. A “marine safety lover” award will be created to reward individuals and organizations with influential roles in developing marine safety.

The meeting closed with marine officials allowing boat operators to trade in old life vests to obtain newer, safer models.
