Tourism officials estimate Pattaya attracted 250,000 tourists who spent 925 million baht in the first three weeks of February.

Tourism Authority of Pattaya office Director Suladda Sarutilavan said a full slate of organized events plus Chinese New Year saw area hotels and streets packed with tourists during February. Events included Burapha Bike Week, the WTA Pattaya Open, Ripley’s Believe It or Not!’s world-record-attempt dance marathon and lots of Valentine’s Day attractions.

But it was Chinese New Year that put Pattaya over the top with tourists. Roads were so clogged, it really did seem like the year of the sheep on the streets. Goats might have been faster.

Suladda speculated that tourism was up about 20 percent from last year.
