Suspected loan-shark enforcer arrested

Police arrested a 20-year-old Thai man suspected of being an enforcer for an East Pattaya loan shark.

Saharat Phetnil, 20, was taken into custody on Soi Khao Talo Aug. 6. Police confiscated 17,540 baht, 100 debt contacts and a mobile phone.

Police said Saharat confessed to collecting high-interest debts for a loan shark identified only as “Boon” on Soi Khao Noi, assaulting those who were late or slow to pay.

He was jailed on illegal money-lending charges while the investigation into his employer continues.
