Senate committee eyeing jail upgrades tours Banglamung station

Members of the Senate Human Security Committee toured Banglamung Police Station, gathering information that could lead to improved quality of Thai jails.

Banglamung Superintendent Col. Somnuk Janthagesm welcomed committee chairman Gen. Wanchai Srinuannad and other senators to the station May 2. They discussed risk management, human rights violations and toured the jail cells to see conditions for themselves.

Somnuk detailed the station’s accident-prevention and jail-management policies, which the panel may use in its work to revise regulations and standards to allow Thai jails to meet international standards on human rights, Wanchai said.
