A Pattaya disco is battling a 10-day closure order after scandalous photos of a woman appearing to be performing oral sex on a South Korean there prompted scrutiny of the bar’s record-keeping.

808 First Class Clubbing on Walking Street was ordered closed June 29 for problems related to registration of its staff. The bar has appealed the order from Banglamung District Chief Chakorn Kanjawattana and, as of July 4, remained open.

The order came after the Internet erupted over photos of a woman who appeared to be giving a smirking South Korean man oral sex at a bar. The photos, snapped and posted online by a woman, brought howls of outrage, with online posters claiming that it would ruin the image of Thailand.

Chakorn was joined by Pattaya police chief Pol. Col. Sukthat Pumpunmuang and Chonburi chief Pol. Gen. Nitipong Niamnoi about 18 hours after the incident occurred.

Interrogating both security guards and bar management, they heard that the couple entered the disco just before its closing at 3 a.m. and that two Thai women reported the fellatio incident to guards, who immediately threw the amorous pair out.

Pattaya officials said security handled the incident correctly and the bar had broken no laws. However, scrutiny of the bars licenses and paperwork found irregularities, which prompted Chakorn to issue the short closure as penalty.

Chakorn added that all club operators in the area will be invited to a hearing to where government policies and regulations will be established to prevent such things from happening again.
