S.O.S. Rice 2012 campaign raises 13 tons, 1.8 million baht for Father Ray Foundation

The Father Ray Foundation raised nearly 13 tons of rice and more than 1.7 million baht during its S.O.S. Rice 2012 campaign.

Foundation President Rev. Michael Picharn Jaiseri said the drive, which began Dec. 4, collected 12,939 kg of rice and 1.76 million baht from donation boxes at shopping malls, government offices and schools.

Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome, Phawin Phettrakul, general manager for the Alcazar cabaret show, and Praichit Jetpai, chairwoman of the YWCA Bangkok-Pattaya Center, capped off the charity drive at the Feb. 4 press conference by donating another 1 ton and 90 bags of rice, respectively.

“This year’s drive was an immense success and better than 2011, when 1.3 million baht in cash and rice was raised,” Jaiseri said.

Funds and rice go toward supporting 850 children under the care of the Father Ray Foundation and its Redemptorist schools.
