Redemptorist school to send 219 students, staff to Korat Games

The Redemptorist School for Persons with Disabilities plans to send 219 athletes and staff to the National Disabled Games Jan. 15-19 in Nakhon Ratchasima.

Speaking at the school’s Nov. 20 board meeting, Father Ray Foundation Vice President Rev. Michael Picharn Jaiseri said athletes will compete in 14 sports at the “Korat Games,” including track, table tennis, boccia, badminton, petanque, weightlifting, archery, shooting, volleyball, swimming, wheelchair tennis, basketball and fencing.

Many of the athletes going to the national games recently participated in the ASEAN Para Games in South Korea, he said.

Fr. Michael told city and community leaders at the meeting that the school was working to develop its disabled student population on both the academic and sports fronts.

The school has organized the Father Ray Awards for students to take part in academic competitions. It is also offering activities for students to help communities by coordinating with Pattaya and the Chonburi Provincial Administrative Organization for electrical repair services in the community and at Pattaya Remand Prison.
