Wuthi told the diplomats that the first three weeks of the month-long crime sweep has seen criminal incidents decrease 90 percent. Officers have stopped 7,000 cars and motorbikes in road checkpoints, making hundreds of drug and weapons arrests.

In addition to the 611 officers deployed, police also had trained and called on 300 Thai and foreign volunteers to assist. Police also briefed the embassy officials on the opening of a consumer-protection center at Pattaya City Hall.
The police officials were not asked what would happen once the high-profile crackdown ends this weekend.
