A heartbroken caddy at Plutaluang Golf Course died after drowning during a drunken swim.

Plutaluang police are calling the Dec. 10 death a suicide, saying Prasert Kukaew, 25, threw himself into a 2-meter-deep lagoon in Moo 6 after downing a bottle of booze and removing his shirt and shoes.

Witness Napodnai Parito said the victim had invited him to drink by the lagoon to discuss a fight with his girlfriend, who had hit him. While they were drinking, his girlfriend called and the argument continued.

After Prasert hung up, Napodnai left him to retrieve a fishing net. When he returned Prasert was gone. The witness told police he was certain the lovelorn victim killed himself.
