Police announce 9 arrests as part of high-season crackdown

Area police announced the arrest of two men wanted for attempted murder and another six alleged drug dealers and users as part of a tourist-season crime crackdown in Pattaya.

Chonburi Police Station Commander Maj. Gen. Khatcha Thatsart said Saharat Ruangdit, 22, and Piyapong Rattanatharee, 22, were captured based on a Dec. 6 arrest warrant for conspiracy to commit murder. Two 9 mm handguns and a variety of ammunition was seized.

The drug suspects were Soraya Diloklap, 27; Yuranant Kaewbunruang, 25; Nittiruj Sirapitchayarat, 39; Rungarun See-Nuu, 33; Narin Nongyai, 27; and Theerawuth Nonthkuan, 26. Police confiscated 12.4 grams of crystal methamphetamines, 75 methamphetamine tablets, and 2.1 grams of marijuana.

Police also announced the arrest of Nuanla-or Saensukh, 45, for alleged theft of an Apple iPhone.

Khatcha said suspects had conspired to kill Jirapol Suriyo, 23, on May 29. The arrests came after the pair had threatened their enemies on the Facebook website.

Of the drug suspects, the case involving Rungarun proved embarrassing for law enforcement as he was a security guard at the Pattaya Courthouse. He was arrested with 75 ya ba tablets he allegedly was selling there.

The arrests were the latest in a high-profile crackdown slated to run through Feb. 7.
