The well-known marching-band instructor from Phothisamphan Phitthayakhan School was shot in the head and another person was injured in a case of apparent road rage in Pattaya.

Saroj Bunmuang, 27, sustained a minor wound from a shotgun blast that blew out the back window of his Ford Ranger pickup truck Aug. 18 at the intersection of Soi Pothisan and Sukhumvit Road. Passenger Amita Kleaydaeng, 19, also sustained minor injuries from broken glass. They were treated and released from Bangkok Hospital Pattaya.

Phanthira Shanasppapha, a computer teacher at the school, said Saroj, who also is a music advisor to the Chonburi Provincial Administrative Organization, was driving Amita, a school alumnus who now attends Laem Chabang College of Technology, when they encountered a Honda sedan whose driver was moving erratically.

Saroj blew his horn two or three times to warn the driver to be careful. The middle-age driver, however, didn’t care for being honked at and raced alongside Saroj, shouting abuse.

The car then dropped behind and the driver fired a shotgun shell at the truck’s back window before speeding away.

Police are reviewing CCTV camera footage to try and identify the gunman.
