The operators of 7-Eleven stores in Thailand recognized Pattaya School No. 11’s commitment to reading programs by awarding it the first “Love to Read School” sign in the city.

Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome and the Education Department’s Wannapa Wannasri joined Principal Jirasak Jitsom Jan. 21 to accept the sign from Suwit Kingkaew, senior vice president of CP All Plc.

The sign was given in acknowledgement of School No. 11’s significant and continuous promotion of reading among students, parents and teachers, Suwit said.

Before the presentation, students in the Sing and Dance Club performed a stage play, “Love of Reading for Life”. There were also speeches from high school and primary school students on the importance of reading in personal and societal development.

Wannapa, whose family funded the majority of the school’s new library, said her parents always taught her and others in the family to provide opportunities to those who want to learn because both of her parents did not have many educational opportunities when they were young.

With this determination, her family decided to contribute to building the library for children so that they could have more learning resources to help move their education forward and cultivate the love of reading.

Jirasak thanked Wannapa for donating another 200,000 baht for the extension to the back of the library after having donated 500,000 baht previously for the construction of the library.

Itthiphol said promotion of the love of reading for Pattaya students is an important policy of Pattaya City Hall in response to national economic and social development plans. Therefore, Pattaya joined hands with CP All to initiate the “Love to Read School” project to support school activities encouraging students to love books and reading.

Suwit said the company was happy to help and has been working with Pattaya since 2013 to promote and develop reading, writing, learning, and intellectual skills for youth. Those projects cover skills development for producing learning materials, organizing activities to promote reading and learning, library management, and developing the process to bring children to books.
