The Nation Multimedia Group and Pattaya Bicycle Association are planning a 40-kilometer ride through Mabprachan Reservoir and Big Buddha Hill to promote a planned government-funded bicycle route.

Deputy Mayor Verawat Khakhay and City Councilman Manoj Nongyai met with representatives of the two groups May 6 to continue planning the June 14 National Bike Thailand Pattaya 2015 ride. The Nation hosts several bike treks throughout Thailand, the second of which was held in January in Lampang.

Khakhay said the ride is intended to study and promote a route suggested by the Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism and funded by Chonburi province.

The route for the ride begins at the Dolphin Roundabout, heads up to the Naklua Market, past the Banglamung Police Station and, making a U-turn at Wat Mai Chonglom, heads to Chaiyapornvithi Road. Riders then will trek around Lake Mabprachan, past Siam Country Club and stop to take a photo. The ride returns to Chaiyapornvithi Road, moves onto to Sukhumvit and back to Pattaya.

Chonburi has set aside 20 million baht for paved bike routes around Mabprachan and at Khao Sichan, the Big Buddha Hill.

“We expect the project can help to solve problems regarding accidents and traffic,” Verawat said.
