The mayor and Tourism Authority of Thailand Pattaya Director Auttaphol Wannakij welcomed large crowds of mostly Thai residents and tourists to “Yesterday’s Naklua” between Lan Po Market and the Yao Bridge Nov. 24.
Naklua Walking Street market is open Saturday and Sunday nights from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. every week through Jan. 12.
Seafood vendors dominated the market, offering shrimp, octopus, oysters, crab and fish to be grilled and eaten on site or taken home. Other stalls offered pork, duck, chicken, other fowl and accompanying vegetables suitable for making “somtam.”
Long a project of the mayor, the market is aimed at highlighting historical culture and products in the Naklua area.
Opening night featured live Thai-music performances and 11 Muay Thai boxing matches organized by City Councilman Nakhon Phonlookin.
Naklua Walking Street market is open Saturday and Sunday nights from 17.00-22.00 p.m. every week through Jan. 12, 2014.
