Royal Thai Navy drug-suppression officers arrested a 22-year-old ex-convict allegedly using a monk’s robes to disguise his continued career as a drug dealer.

Arm Srisai, 22, was taken into custody at the Kong Ka Ram Temple in Bang Saray. Officers seized 200 methamphetamine tablets they found on him.

Authorities were tipped off to the monk during the recent interrogation of other drug suspects who said they bought ya ba tablets from him.

Arm was arrested in May 2011 with 340 ya ba tablets, a gun and drug paraphernalia. He recently was released after serving three years, but told police he had made friends with another inmate who had been a dealer and they planned to continue once out.

Police said Arm admitted his drug-dealing ways and explained that he had joined the monkhood so he could hide from police inside the temple to disguise his illegal occupation.
