Man arrested for weapons possession

Police patrolling South Pattaya stopped a suspicious-looking motorbike driver, arresting him after discovering a hidden handgun.

Sompong Koyangphuak, 31, tried to flee police who approached him near the intersection of Soi 17 and Soi Yensabai May 28. Searching him, officers found a 22-caliber automatic pistol loaded with six bullets.

Police said Sompong confessed to ownership of the unregistered weapon, saying he carried it to garner respect from those who see it. He was charged with illegal weapons possession and jailed at Pattaya Police Station.
