Top area politicians turned out to bid farewell to Chinese charge d’affaires Zhang Yiming, who is returning home to take over the country’s commerce ministry.

The June 7 affair at the Sud Thang Rak restaurant drew former Culture Minister Sonthaya Kunplome, Chonburi Gov. Khomsan Ekachai, former MPs, city council members, and Bandit Siritanyong, vice president of the Thai-Chinese Cultural and Economic Association.

Chinese Ambassador to Thailand Ning Fukui also attended.

Sonthaya presented a gift to the outgoing counselor, who will be the Chinese Ministry of Commerce’s new director-general.
