International Union for Health Promotion and Education to hold annual meeting in Pattaya

An international organization dedicated to improving health and well-being of people through education, community action and public policy will hold its annual global meeting in Pattaya Aug. 25-29.

Up to 3,000 people are expected to attend the International Union for Health Promotion and Education’s World Conference on Health Promotion at the Royal Cliff Peach Convention Center. Top Chonburi and Pattaya officials met June 4 to continue planning for the event, which is cosponsored by the Thai Health Promotion Foundation.

Chonburi Deputy Gov. Pongsak Preechawit followed up on earlier directives to Pattaya Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh on plans for security, traffic management, and health care.

Ronakit also briefed attendees on plans for “culture night,” a showpiece recreational activity that will see Pattaya school children put on stage performances.

The IUHPE meeting will serve as a forum to highlight contrasting and challenging views and offer a platform for exchange and debate on mainstream and alternative perspectives. The various sessions will provide a mixture of practical lessons from global, national and regional experiences.

The conference’s agenda seeks to examine the best investments for health, the different views that shape health policy, investors in health-promotion systems, challenges to developing and implementing health policies, and innovations transforming health promotion.

Speakers will include World Bank President Jim Yong Kim; Somsook Boonyabancha, secretary-general of the Asian Coalition for Housing Rights; John Frank, director of the Scottish Collaboration for Public Health Research and Policy; and Sergio Fajardo Valderrama, governor of Antioquia, and others.
