The YWCA Bangkok-Pattaya Center donated a wheelchair to the disabled patriarch of an infirm family of five that has been begging through the media for nearly five months.

YWCA Chairwoman Praichit Jetpai and former Chairwoman Nittaya Patimasongkroh presented the chair to 80-year-old Shalan Sakolyuth along with other basic necessities for his family July 4.  The donation was a follow-up to the association’s June 7 meeting to give the family advice on long-term employment and planning options.

80-year-old Shalan Sakolyuth says thank you for the wheelchair. 80-year-old Shalan Sakolyuth says thank you for the wheelchair.

Shalan is paralyzed from the waist down and suffers from kidney disease. Wife Waeth Narinthorn is a stroke victim, and daughters Nuaree Narinthorn, 45, has lung cancer, Orndee Sakolyuth, 25, has cystic fibrosis and Thongsuk Sakolyuth has arthritis. They have made repeated appeals for aid since February, collecting donations from dozens of individuals and groups.

Shalan said he needed the wheelchair to help his daughter sell lottery tickets.
