Gamblers looking for an edge in the next government lottery draw flocked to a gold-colored tree discovered in Takientia.

The neem tree blooming in Nongkradong is located in an eight-rai cassava field. Standing about 1.5 meters tall, the leaves and branches had turned gold, setting off a frenzy among superstitious gamblers with gold bars and necklaces their eyes.

Thais placed colored cloth around the tree, lit incense and candles and prayed for the winning numbers.

Villagers said the cassava field is owned by an older local woman who never shared the secret of the golden tree with her neighbors, knowing that locals would trample her crops to get to it.

Word finally got out and, sure enough, people cross her field day and night to decipher trunk marks and leaf patterns and somehow translate them into numbers.

The field owner couldn’t stop the entranced throngs of people even though, so far, no one actually has hit the jackpot based on their arborous soothsaying.
