Peter Hoffman, just shy of his 68th birthday, and who had had both his legs amputated, used a long cloth to hang himself from a door. Police found two prosthetic legs nearby and no signs of struggle or robbery. A suicide note in German was also found.
Suphattra Saengthapthim, 24, and Teerapon Janepromarach, 23 - who had worked as caretakers for the German - alerted police to the death when they came to assist him April 27. Police said Hoffman had been dead about four hours.
The body was sent to the Forensics Institute and the German embassy was notified.
