Rayong Immigration Police arrested a Thai former taxi driver for allegedly transporting Cambodian illegal aliens to work assignments around the Kingdom.

Somdee Yadthamtrai, 55, and three Cambodians were taken into custody Feb. 16 after immigration officials pulled over Somdee’s gray Toyota sedan near an irrigation canal in Bankai District. The Khmer citizens were charged with illegally entering Thailand and Somdee with human trafficking.

Police said Somdee confessed that he was paid up to 5,000 baht per person to transport illegal laborers to work assignments or back to the border. Officials said he claimed to have made more than 100 runs before getting caught.
