Police suspect a maid fired two days earlier is behind the theft of more than a half-million baht in jewelry and gold from the home of a retired Australian solider.

Harvey Burton, 65, and his 36-year-old wife Arisra Akhana reported the burglary at the We Care Apartments in South Pattaya June 26. There were no signs of forced entry, leading police to suspect the thief had a key.

Taken were two diamond rings worth 400,000 baht, a 2-baht gold necklace, 1-baht gold bracelet, quarter-baht gold ring and 20,000 baht cash.

Burton suggested their maid, fired two days earlier, might be responsible. Police are investigating.

Well, hiring a maid, when you have a free loading Thai girl doing nothing but spending the blokes retirement funds, is idiotic. and usually the wife is is on it to help family, friends and Thai boyfriend, because the old geezer will expire soon.
