Ten fire engines battled the Feb. 12 blaze for an hour. The fire began in 10,000 sq. meter pavilion and quickly spread to the museum and a shop selling Royal Chitralada agricultural products. An electrical short is assumed to be the cause. No one was injured.
Fire caused more than 50 million baht in damages to the meditation pavilion and an antiques museum at Nongprue Temple.
Witness Sunisa Thama, 16, told police that while she was at the community radio station next to the pavilion she heard a loud, sharp noise before discovering a fire burning through wires behind the building. Monks, novices and neighbors tried to fight the fire, but were unable to control it.
