Father Ray ‘S.O.S.’ drive collects 12.7 tons rice, 1.3 million baht cash

The Father Ray Foundation celebrated the success of its “S.O.S. Rice” drive after collecting more than 12.7 tons of rice and 1.3 million baht in cash donations.

Father Ray executives joined Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome, Nongprue Mayor Mai Chaiyanit and other politicians at the Jan. 24 press conference to thank sponsors and donation givers.

Father Ray Vice President Rev. Michael Picharn Jaiseri said the food drive, which began Nov. 4, targeted charity organizations, department stores, supermarkets and outdoor markets around Pattaya for donations to the foundation, which operates numerous Redemptorist schools and shelters. He said the support was overwhelming.

Father Ray Acting President Rev. Peter Pattarapong Srivorakul said donation boxes were installed in stores, at markets and on Walking Street to solicit rice and cash for orphans, the handicapped and victims of last year’s nationwide flooding.

In all, the S.O.S. Rice campaign netted 12.74 tons of rice and 1.35 million baht in cash. He said both will go a long way to help the 850 children under the care of Father Ray organizations.

Foundation executives closed the ceremony by awarding the biggest sponsors certificates of gratitude.
