A much-wanted suspected necklace thief was captured in East Pattaya after being shot while fleeing Banglamung police.

Weerayuth Wareedum, 18, was shot in the eye May 2 by Capt. Wiroj Inthchom next to a Tesco-Lotus Express store on Soi Pornprapanimit. He was treated while under guard at Banglamung Hospital.

The shooting and arrest came after police attempted to capture Weerayuth and other suspected necklace snatchers who were meeting in on Soi Sukhumvit 49. Weerayuth escaped in his Toyota Mighty-X truck, but crashed into a wall and fled on foot. Wiroj took him down when Weerayuth allegedly tried to steal a motorbike at gunpoint from 25-year-old Illipa Inthrat, firing his 11 mm handgun once into the air.

Police seized the gun, 15 bullets and a 1-baht weight gold necklace, presumed to be stolen.

Weerayuth has been on the run since being arrested March 24th with 35 stolen gold necklaces and amulets and then escaping police custody.
